Retracom recently completed the supply and install of an innovative
fire rated switch room for UGL Engineering as part of a contract to upgrade of
the Pittsworth Water Reclamation facilities for Toowoomba Regional Council. The
specification of the switch room building required a 1 hour FRL (fire rated
level) in accord with AS1530.4 to address the site ignition and flammability
hazards. Typically this has been achieved by onsite construction in bricks and
mortar. A fire engineer was engaged to integrate various proprietary FRL
systems together in a single modular building certified as an alternate
solution in compliance with building code. Factory fabrication enabled better build
quality control and allowed us to work closely with UGL during the custom
design process. The transportability of the modules further provided the flexibility
of where the final switchgear fitout occurs. Our contract also included a combined
amenities and control room building that is well suited to the clean lines and
hygienic finish provided by sandwich panel. Retracom’s scope of works extended
to site installation whereafter UGL Engineering fitted out the switch gear
insitu.
