Toowoomba Airport Visit - February 2014
With a population of approximately 165,000 Toowoomba has an
abundance of quality educational facilities, a stable quality workforce and
represents a business hub for the Region however it does not have an airport
that services their needs effectively.
All this will change in October when John Wagner’s vision
for appropriate airport services comes to fruition with Wellcamp Airport
becoming operational.
With a 2.87km runway Wellcamp is designed to cater for large
jets up to 747 and will conduct regular passenger services, charter flights,
fly in fly out services and airfreight services. With direct access to the Surat, Cooper,
Bowen and Galilee Basins businesses will be strongly placed to take advantage
of the growth in those areas. The airport will be serviced by an
architectural-designed terminal that covers approximately 8000m2.
The development also incorporates the Wellcamp Business Park
which will become home to a diverse business community. With the newly announced Toowoomba bypass
passing alongside the Business Park allows easy access in all directions. The Business Park is set to become the
premier business address outside of Brisbane.
Martin and Paula Porter, Shannon Porter, Graeme Partland and
Craig Leschke recently represented Retracom with a guided tour of the facility
and the sheer magnitude of the job was clearly evident. With the construction phase being a 24 hour
operation the landscape is undergoing daily changes and realisation of a vision
is becoming apparent.
The accompanying photo was taken from the end of the new
runway and with the bitumen surface scheduled to be laid in early May the
Wellcamp Airport is really taking shape.
This premier Wagner development is sure to be an outstanding asset to
the Region.
