Mobilising NEXUS TSRC Project Offices

Retracom Hire are mobilising to establish the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing (TSRC) project main office complex at the Mort St and Hermitage Rd interchange for Nexus. These facilities and several other satellite locations will be home to Nexus during the 40 month Design and Construction phase.

The TSRC is a bypass north of Toowoomba which ensures freight can be moved efficiently to and from the Darling Downs and greater Surat Basin region and significantly improves driver safety and community amenity by removing heavy vehicles from the Toowoomba Central Business District.

Acciona Infrastructure Australia and Ferrovial Agroman Australia are in the Nexus CJV for the design and construction of the project. Nexus is a committed to a ‘greater connection’ with the community, local industry and suppliers. Retracom are proud to be associated with the project and assist Nexus in achieving its local content targets. Our Toowoomba branch office at O’Mara Rd Charlton is located immediately adjacent the Warrego Hwy West connection (pictured) and this is where the building modules are being prepared before the short haul to site.

Construction is commencing now with the roadway scheduled to open in 2018.

Steel Frame Modular Building for Dunwich Fire Station

Factory fabrication has started on steel frame modular buildings as part of refurbishment works at Dunwich Fire Station for the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services.

The 4 off 6x3 metre modules will serve as duty offices, sleeping quarters and training facilities. Retracom are supplying to AA Dart & Co who will be installing the buildings on Stradbroke Island.

Retracom has traditionally constructed portable buildings using insulated sand wich panel however since the divestment of our panel manufacturing business to Pearl MiiHomes in 2012 we have diversified into other framing methods.

These alternatives include specialised buildings where fire rated levels (FRL) have been specified. So please feel free to contact us to discuss your customised transportable building requirements and access the advantages of modular construction.

Sunshades and Awnings for Commercial Premises at Wacol

Sunshades and Awnings for Commercial Premises at Wacol

Developers, builders, architects and specifiers looking to meet the Section J Energy Efficiency requirements in the Building Code should consider the use of insulated sandwich panel awnings to achieve window shading design requirements.

This was done on the commercial office premises at 1435 Boundary Rd Wacol to dress up the building and the results can be seen in the accompanying photo. Insulated panel sunshades are also very cost competitive compared to alternatives.

Retracom Contracting was engaged by Multispan to supply and install these sun shades and awnings. Insulated panels come standard in a range of Bluescope colours and are generally finished with powder coated aluminium extrusions.

Retracom brings quality workmanship and insulated panel expertise to projects established from over 25 years contracting as coldroom builders.  Contact John Thomas or Matt Bourke in our contracting team http://www.retracom.com.au/contracting/contact/  for a supply and install quote on your next commercial property development.

Fire Rated Switchrooms for Flood Resilience Works

Fire Rated Switchrooms for Flood Resilience Works at Urban Utilities Oxley WTP

Retracom Transportable Buildings has just delivered a Fire Rated HV Switchroom to MPA Engineering who are the main electrical subcontractors to Monadelphous as part of flood resilience works at Urban Utilities Oxley Creek WTP (Water Treatment Plant).

The facility suffered $32 million worth of damage in the Brisbane Floods of 2011 and forced part of the plant offline. A range of flood proofing measures are being rolled out including raising electrical equipment, such as switchboards, 30cm higher than the 2011 flood peak.

Industrial and residential growth in the area also dictated a capacity increase from 53 million to 65 million litres of sewage a day.

The HV switchroom measured 15.5x5.5x3.9m externally and because it was specified with a (2 hour FRL) or 120/120/120 fire rating level the building was constructed using flameguard sandwich panel in combination with various other fire certified elements. The total building tare weight was nearing 22 tons and it will be fitted out insitu with approximately 8-9 tons of switch gear and control equipment by MPA over coming weeks. Retracom had also previously supplied a smaller modular fire rated digestor switchroom.

Retracom Modular Fire Rated Switchrooms

Retracom recently completed the supply and install of an innovative fire rated switch room for UGL Engineering as part of a contract to upgrade of the Pittsworth Water Reclamation facilities for Toowoomba Regional Council. The specification of the switch room building required a 1 hour FRL (fire rated level) in accord with AS1530.4 to address the site ignition and flammability hazards. Typically this has been achieved by onsite construction in bricks and mortar. A fire engineer was engaged to integrate various proprietary FRL systems together in a single modular building certified as an alternate solution in compliance with building code. Factory fabrication enabled better build quality control and allowed us to work closely with UGL during the custom design process. The transportability of the modules further provided the flexibility of where the final switchgear fitout occurs. Our contract also included a combined amenities and control room building that is well suited to the clean lines and hygienic finish provided by sandwich panel. Retracom’s scope of works extended to site installation whereafter UGL Engineering fitted out the switch gear insitu.
